Overview
In 1914 the councils around Skálafjřrđ entered into a cooperative agreement in order to expand the existing amenities. Today this cooperative is called "The Kongshavn Harbour Board". The Authority consists of one member from each of the five councils. At present there are five large harbours with a combined Quay length of 2000 metres, with a depth from 6,50 to 12 metres.
Several of these harbours have originally been used in connection with the fishing industry, and there is therefore plenty of space alongside the quay for e.g. containers, and quay space for warehousing, workshops and other buildings. On the fjord there is an established shipyard, with a large dry-dock, and a bunkering facility which always has a large amount of fuel available.
